Summary

Kimi Räikkönen is the Finnish superstar Formula One driver with a reputation for being fast on the track and silent off it – until now!

In this superb and authorised portrait of Räikkönen, Kari Hotakainen gets to reveal the side of the man that few beyond his close family and friends have ever seen。 Enigmatic and private, Ferrari’s former world champion driver rarely opens up to outsiders, but he granted Hotakainen exclusive access to his world and to his way of thinking。 It ensures that this will be a book that will delight all fans of motorsport, who have long revered the Finn。

Including never-previously-seen photographs from his own collection, The Unknown Kimi Räikkönen takes the reader into the heart of the action at grands prix around the world, behind the scenes as race strategies are planned, and opens up the private side of his life that he normally guards so carefully。

With all the cult appeal of I Am Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the raw excitement of Formula One and the insight of the best biographies, this is a book every sports fan will want to treasure。

Life in the fast lane。⭐⭐⭐ 。。。more

Unghh, olipa jotenkin vähän raskaasti kirjoitettu, Hotakaisen tyyli oli paikka paikoin melko paatoksellinen。 Ihan mielenkiintoinen kyllä。 Olen imeytynyt F1-maailmaan viimeisimpien kuukausien aikana (sen hemmetin Netflix-sarjan syy。。。) ja pakko myöntää, että olen ajatellut Kimin "brändin" olevan vaan todella huolella luotu, ja varmaan se tietyllä tapaa nykyään onkin, mutta ehdottomasti kaikelle sille suoruudelle, vähäsanaisuudelle ja jäisyydelle on pohjansa todellisuudessa。 Unghh, olipa jotenkin vähän raskaasti kirjoitettu, Hotakaisen tyyli oli paikka paikoin melko paatoksellinen。 Ihan mielenkiintoinen kyllä。 Olen imeytynyt F1-maailmaan viimeisimpien kuukausien aikana (sen hemmetin Netflix-sarjan syy。。。) ja pakko myöntää, että olen ajatellut Kimin "brändin" olevan vaan todella huolella luotu, ja varmaan se tietyllä tapaa nykyään onkin, mutta ehdottomasti kaikelle sille suoruudelle, vähäsanaisuudelle ja jäisyydelle on pohjansa todellisuudessa。 。。。more

Having read (and got bored with) a number of other F1 drivers autobiographies I was keen to see what makes the ice man tick。 I really loved the distance that this was written in, the opinions of the author carry you around this man and cover periods of his life。 It’s refreshingly different and paints the picture you’re there with the author as kimi chills with his family。 Light hearted and sincere definitely worth a read if you’ve put up with any other driver biographies or fancy ‘one more’。 Oth Having read (and got bored with) a number of other F1 drivers autobiographies I was keen to see what makes the ice man tick。 I really loved the distance that this was written in, the opinions of the author carry you around this man and cover periods of his life。 It’s refreshingly different and paints the picture you’re there with the author as kimi chills with his family。 Light hearted and sincere definitely worth a read if you’ve put up with any other driver biographies or fancy ‘one more’。 Other drivers I’ve read for reference are。 Lewis Hamilton, David couthard, jenson button, 。。。more

Well。。。 Not exactly what I expected but a good biography nonetheless。Sport biography isn't really my genre but I read some of them in the past。 The one by Zlatan Ibrahimović, for instance, made my look at him in a different way and I found new respect for the guy。 His ego may be huge but he knows what to do on a football field。 I also read a biography by an Italian sport shooter and it was so fun。。。This one。。。 Well, sometimes I had the feeling the protagonist wasn't Kimi Räikkönen, but the write Well。。。 Not exactly what I expected but a good biography nonetheless。Sport biography isn't really my genre but I read some of them in the past。 The one by Zlatan Ibrahimović, for instance, made my look at him in a different way and I found new respect for the guy。 His ego may be huge but he knows what to do on a football field。 I also read a biography by an Italian sport shooter and it was so fun。。。This one。。。 Well, sometimes I had the feeling the protagonist wasn't Kimi Räikkönen, but the writer himself。 There's too much of him in the book, which was supposed to be the story of Räikkönen's life。 It's the story of how Hotakainen got to know the Finnish driver instead。 He sure is no invisible narrator。Another thing I really dislike about this biography is the tone。 Hotakainen seems to picture Räikkönen has a "poor" humble kid trying to survive in the most exclusive sport in the word。 It's not a biography, it's an hagiography。。。 Everything Kimi does is OK: it's the world around him that's rotten。There are a lot of interviews with people who worked with Kimi but they usually say a couple of positive things and then they're gone forever。 At the same time, Hotakainen gave me the chance to see how is the life of a F1 driver, albeit one as peculiar as Räikkönen。 I also like the part about karting very much。 And the were tons of pictures too。20£ were probably a lot of money for this book。。。 I bought it second-hand for less than half of that and it was worth it。 。。。more

A good author writes a biography of a perplexing person。 Sounds interesting, huh? My expectations were high but 。。。 after reading the book, I felt like having wasted my time。 There's not much depth, in terms of analysis or new facts。 Kimi Räikkönen is from a relatively poor family。 He played with cars and bikes from an early age, and learned about the mechanics as well。 He didn't go to school much, but instead spent his time racing。 Räikkönen is a talented driver who got a few lucky strikes, and A good author writes a biography of a perplexing person。 Sounds interesting, huh? Easy to read and says a lot about the psyche of Kimi during his growing up years and as a novice driver and now with a family。Ice man appears cold and aloof at times but he is really, according to the book, a down to earth guy very much detached in the glamorous world of F1。Hands-on, direct, shy and no bullshit - like the Finns that I come to know in my course of work。 He believes in have a time for everything in life and very much values friendship, loyalty and family。“I never thought that I wa Easy to read and says a lot about the psyche of Kimi during his growing up years and as a novice driver and now with a family。Ice man appears cold and aloof at times but he is really, according to the book, a down to earth guy very much detached in the glamorous world of F1。Hands-on, direct, shy and no bullshit - like the Finns that I come to know in my course of work。 He believes in have a time for everything in life and very much values friendship, loyalty and family。“I never thought that I was a star of any kind, in the 90s, with landlines, you were bound to have something tô say, people didn’t just ring for the fun of it。 That’s why my phone had been on silent for years。 I can’t be bothered to answer when the voice at the other end says that it’s nothing really。”Above quote sums up the person that he is。 。。。more

There’s no chronological order to this book, it’s very choppy and makes it very hard to follow。 Also wasn’t a fan of the author deciding to focus on other people (seemingly irrelevant to Kimi) for longer periods than necessary, considering this is a biography about Kimi and not others。 But it was still interesting to read about his life, that’s the only reason why this book is any good imo。 The actual story, not the storytelling in the slightest。 Would’ve rated it more, but just can’t get past h There’s no chronological order to this book, it’s very choppy and makes it very hard to follow。 Also wasn’t a fan of the author deciding to focus on other people (seemingly irrelevant to Kimi) for longer periods than necessary, considering this is a biography about Kimi and not others。 But it was still interesting to read about his life, that’s the only reason why this book is any good imo。 The actual story, not the storytelling in the slightest。 Would’ve rated it more, but just can’t get past how it was written。 。。。more

Terribly written book about my favourite F1 driver。 The only saving grace were some of the interesting and humorous stories about Kimi's life that I had not heard or read before。 Large portions of his career are glossed over and it feels like the author never digs into the meat of anything。 Too bad - I was hoping for this to be good。 Terribly written book about my favourite F1 driver。 The only saving grace were some of the interesting and humorous stories about Kimi's life that I had not heard or read before。 Large portions of his career are glossed over and it feels like the author never digs into the meat of anything。 Too bad - I was hoping for this to be good。 。。。more

I'd give it 2 stars if it weren't for the amazing quotes and insights by Kimi himself。 The book pretty much abandons any hope of chronoligal progression following Kimi's F1 debut, afterwards the book reads like random chapters about Kimi being pieced together。Overall the book is enjoyable for a long time Formula One fan like myself, but I doubt newcomers to motorsports or general biography readers would find much to enjoy in this book。The iceman deserved better。 I'd give it 2 stars if it weren't for the amazing quotes and insights by Kimi himself。 The book pretty much abandons any hope of chronoligal progression following Kimi's F1 debut, afterwards the book reads like random chapters about Kimi being pieced together。Overall the book is enjoyable for a long time Formula One fan like myself, but I doubt newcomers to motorsports or general biography readers would find much to enjoy in this book。The iceman deserved better。 。。。more

A biography of a man I have long admired and my second favourite racing driver of all time (Okay, Senna had to take first)。 Not that Kimi would care either way, and that is why we all love Kimi so。The book is disjointed and kinda crazy。 I got the impression the writer was desperately trying to deal with the sprite that is Kimi and then translate the actions into something we all would enjoy。 He failed, I fear, but then did you expect anything else?We did discover much on his personal and home li A biography of a man I have long admired and my second favourite racing driver of all time (Okay, Senna had to take first)。 Not that Kimi would care either way, and that is why we all love Kimi so。The book is disjointed and kinda crazy。 I got the impression the writer was desperately trying to deal with the sprite that is Kimi and then translate the actions into something we all would enjoy。 He failed, I fear, but then did you expect anything else?We did discover much on his personal and home life, more than he wanted out, mayhaps, but his racing life remains a closed book。Still, it was worth the read。 。。。more

Ano, ale nic navíc。 。。。more

I loved this book because it was a good compilation of Kimi’s highlights and funny moments, but also the “behind the scenes” and some of his private life。 Lots of respect for that guy, he’ll always be my favourite。 Him + Ferrari are what defined F1 for me and how I got interested in it。The 16 day bender chapter as well as the stuff with his father were some of the standouts。

A clear different perspective from other persons about untold story of Kimi Raikkonen。 As an F1 fan since twenty years ago, this book tells a lot。

Cory Sydee

Terribly written by the author who knows nothing about F1。 It was interesting to learn more about the real Kimi Raikkonen behind the F1 persona but the writing was just appalling。 It’s a shame it wasn’t written by a writer who could have done a much better job。

Antonino Bilello

This book is not to be praised for minutia of detail, but for the grand effort of documenting the life of a man who hates to speak about himself。 A gorgeous printing, delightful photos, insight into truth and meaning, and a history of a family and the world they have lived through so far makes this book worthy of the attention of fans of motorsport, Finnish nationalists, and lovers of nonfiction。

Biography of Kimi Raikkonen, driver in Formula one

The Unknown Kimi Räikkönen - a beautiful story about great talent, perseverance, confidence, and support。 The book felt very personal since we're not used to seeing the Iceman from so many angles during crude formal interviews。 Apart from being a legendary racing driver, he is a dear son, a loyal friend, a skilled mechanic, a caring father, and a beloved husband。 He doesn't talk much, but his actions speak loud enough for many to respect and love him。 Kimi Matias Räikkönen is a one-of-a-kind pro The Unknown Kimi Räikkönen - a beautiful story about great talent, perseverance, confidence, and support。 The book felt very personal since we're not used to seeing the Iceman from so many angles during crude formal interviews。 Apart from being a legendary racing driver, he is a dear son, a loyal friend, a skilled mechanic, a caring father, and a beloved husband。 He doesn't talk much, but his actions speak loud enough for many to respect and love him。 Kimi Matias Räikkönen is a one-of-a-kind prodigy who has been trusted to drive some hell of expensive cars at 300km/h speed for over 20 years, yet he remains the same down-to-earth pal from Espoo。 You want to describe him as direct, focused, and reserved, but his genuine sense of humor reveals the approachable and fun side。 He keeps following his passion with great joy and dedication to the people he works with and the people he loves。 Whether he likes it or not, but he's an inspiration to many, both in racing and far beyond。 I agree, parts of the book were written in a bit cringey manner, but the touching and fun moments made it very enjoyable for me。 。。。more
